Cinderella Days! Grandpa’s Cinderella Days!

Cinderella Days!  Grandpa Enjoys Some Cinderella Days!

Cindrella Days! www.mytributejournal.com

As much as I love my Cinderella Days with my granddaughters, it’s always fun to watch them enjoy some special times with their Grandpa too!

My husband recently returned home from one of his frequent Home Depot jaunts appearing  more zealous than usual!  (I mean, we’re talking new shoe excitement, here!)  He was so anxious to tell me that Home Depot sponsors a kid’s building activity day on the first Saturday of each month.  Any child is eligible to sign up and participate, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.  After looking at the class schedule he had picked up at the store, outlining upcoming projects, my husband could hardly wait to call and arrange some weekend outings with our granddaughters!  As I’ve mentioned in this previous post, my father-in-law was a genius wood worker who built cabinets and other beautiful furniture and taught his sons those same fine skills!  Since I’m not naturally very handy with tools, I think I was just as excited to see my granddaughters, at their young ages, be given the opportunity to learn a few “tricks of the trade”, so to speak.  To say that Makena and Marli were beyond ecstatic when they got the call from grandpa to join him for a few fun weekends, would be an understatement!
Although I don’t have a picture, I just have to mention that there is nothing quite so heartwarming (and even a little sexy) as seeing my granddaughters car seats sitting up in my husband’s big, manly Dodge truck!  Makena and Marli are always all smiles and giggles when they drive with Grandpa!
Going out for breakfast is always first on the agenda, then the fun “work” gets underway!  My husband told me that the proper use of tools is reviewed with everyone who attends.  I love that each child is given a little work apron and that pins are earned to put on them when their projects are finished.

Makena looks to be a natural with a hammer!  This particular week, they made a tic tac toe game.  (Only Makena went with her Grandpa this time, since the tic tac toe game being made was a more detailed project.)

There’s nothing quite so wonderful as seeing the happy sense of accomplishment on a grandchild’s face!
A few weeks later, with Marli in tow too, Grandpa helped the girls make race cars–does it get any cooler than that?

Seeing my husband with my granddaughters, I know the absolute truth of this quote…

Cinderella Days! Heart Art!

Cinderella Days!  Heart Art!

Cindrella Days! www.mytributejournal.comMy oldest granddaughter, Makena, started school this year, so I have had to up my game a bit in the arts and crafts department.  Basic art coloring projects just don’t hold her interest as much as they once did.

As for my youngest granddaughter, Marli, she just seems destined to cut, glue and glitter her way through life!  Mark my word, if given a few creative outlets to refine her “crafts”, so to speak, it won’t be long before Marli is teaching classes and authoring her very own DIY/Nifty Crafter blog!

As I watch Makena and Marli at work when their creative juices are flowing, I can’t help but feel the urge to go warm up my glue gun!  Ha!

I don’t think there’s a time of year that inspires more crafty creations than the month of February with all the Valentine’s Day themed heart art!  I decided to change things up a bit and do heart art puppets!  The girls loved doing this!

Arts & Crafts with kids! www.mytributejournal.comI gathered all the art supplies we’d need beforehand, I pre-cut some of the hearts and animal faces and made sure I had plenty of heart stickers on hand.  Our local dollar store didn’t have colored sacks, but I’m sure they’d be available at any party supply store.

Sometimes, it is fun to make the art project we are going to do together a special surprise!  Makena’s reaction was priceless!

Creative energy was overflowing, to say the least!

Now that Makena is in kindergarten, she writes her name on all her art projects!  So cute!

The very best part of our heart art craft day was the funny puppet shows we put on after Makena and Marli finished their puppets!

Makena did a very animated show that told the story of how the animals got out of their cages at the zoo…“but then they saw each other and got scared, so they ran back to their cages!”  Too funny!

Just like their mom, I can’t help but wish sometimes, that I could keep these cute girls this age forever!

Heart Art can obviously be done all year long–but it’s especially fun to do around Valentine’s Day!  I’d love to hear about some of the arts and crafts projects you’ve done with children.

Cinderella Days! A Special Valentine Tea Party!

For today’s special

Cindrella Days! www.mytributejournal.com

you’re cordially invited to a

Valentine Tea Party! www.mytribute journal.com

When I was a small child, my parents gave me a miniature china set that they’d purchased in Japan when they visited my Uncle who had been stationed there for military duty in the Air Force.  Oh, the many delightful “pretend” meals I made and served on these treasured dishes!

As I grew up, my dishes got tucked away in storage at my folk’s home until well after my own daughters were past the prime age for getting any meaningful use out of them.  As a result, I wanted to be sure that my granddaughters, Makena and Marli, got the chance to use them for special celebrations!

So welcome to our first, girls only, Valentine Tea Party!

Lacey, paper hearts, bite-sized food portions and chocolate, of course, made for the perfect afternoon with three of the most darling girls I have ever had the pleasure of knowing–and loving!

There never seems to be a craft project that my cute granddaughters don’t love!  I had fancy jewels and Valentine stamps for them to decorate their placemat hearts. (The easier, the better for this grandma!)

Makena was quick to master the art of pouring from a tea-pot!

Valentine's Day Tea Party!

Like me, my granddaughters believe that everything is better with a little chocolate

As we finished eating we played what I call “The Favorites Game”–I had a bunch of questions written out on paper for us to take turns giving our answers…

♥What is your favorite treat?

♥What is your favorite game?

♥What is your favorite movie?

♥What are your favorite clothes to wear?

One hilarious thing that happened as we were finishing up the game was when Makena looked at me rather exasperated and said, “Hey, Grandma, what about our favorite colors?” I just hadn’t thought to include that question since the girls tell me quite often that they love pink and purple–regardless, I found out that it is still a very important question that they love to answer!  (Of course, Makena’s answer to the question– “Besides where you’re living now, where would be your most favorite place to live?” –was Disneyland!)

You never know how something is going to play out when you plan it, but this game was a hit–and instead of each of us taking turns answering a question, Makena decided everyone should answer all the questions!  Both the girls were so cute and animated with their answers, and I think they had fun hearing how their mom and I answered too.

After playing the game…

What special plans do you have to celebrate Valentine’s Day?  I would highly recommend a Valentine Tea Party!
