I love this for so many reasons! What a sweet memory.
For me, the feeling of being content had to begin with a change of perspective.
As a family of five in a 3 bedroom condo, we often find ourselves more than just “cozy”. My toes often get stepped on by 6 little feet. I often have to forget my NEED to have everything orderly, but instead allow toys to spill into the living room, in the hall, and even my bedroom.(Shocking for me!) If one kid wants to go outside, we ALL have to go, since there is no fence. It can feel like a circus act sometimes…shoes, jackets, get this ball, that sidewalk chalk, this scooter, that bike…all tucked in the tiny shed of course. And bed time?! I can’t count how many times I wished for separate bedrooms for my boys as they giggle and laugh into the late hours of the night.
I wished, and envied, and thought for sure I would be happy when the kids have a play room, and when we have a back yard. And surely my boys would sink into their beds without a peep, if they were alone in their bedrooms.
It all changed when I was told by a meer aquaintance at best, who knew nothing about me, but was just inspired that: “if you can’t be happy without it, you can’t be happy with it.”
Of course!! To be happy is a choice, to be content is a state of being. I love that I can listen in on adorable little conversations just a few feet away. I love that I “have” to go outside with my kids with the excuse to leave any distractions in the house, and I love that my boys giggle and bond at night! I can be content with any house, any size…as long as it’s OUR HOME.
